Early Years

Born and raised in Costa Rica, I started taking interest in the arts from a very young age. I loved storytelling and began "writing" stories before I even knew how to write. As I grew older, this fascination with narrative evolved into wanting to be a more active participant in the art of storytelling, which lead to me wanting to act and film (making several homemade movies with my friends and toys). A similar desire of expression through other mediums lead me to pick up drawing. However, as many childhood hobbies, most of these projects were just that.

At age 10, I got into a music institute where I started learning guitar. Music was the first "hobby" that became something more than that. I played in a couple of bands with my friends, as a solo act in my school, and somewhere along the way I decided to start learnings songs that were outside the "guitar genres". Then came time to pick a career. With all the effort me and my family had put into music, there was only one choice for my desired career...

Filmmaking.

Despite me never receiving any formal training in any of my other hobbies like acting, drawing, or fiction narrative writing, I still loved doing all of these and I could honestly not see me doing one of them for the rest of my live, no matter how much I loved them (and by this point, I had also started getting into photography and dance). What originally drew me into Filmmaking as a professional career was the sheer versatility of the art form.

College Years

I started majoring in "Digital Cinema & Filmmaking" at Pace University. While taking all the usual classes like "Editing", "Writing for Different Media", "Directing", "Lighting", I immediately joined the Theater club where I participated on every show we put on (on stage, and off stage). This gave me some sort of campus-wide reputation as a performer (a musician, in particular) which meant I got invited to performing in many events for other orgs and clubs.

As I matured as a musician, and as I was learning to become a filmmaker, I started becoming more creatively active to the point where I started writing original music. At first, it was for my own projects and short films, and then I started writing just original songs. This was the point in my life where I started to develop every single skill I had ever had an interest in.

The Nameless Demon

"名無し" is Japanese for "No Name" or "Anonymous". Of every name in existence, why would I choose this one? I've never been good at socializing. I'm quite a shy person and have a ton of insecurities. Being around people (big crowds of people in particular) is just something that never came natural to me. However, I noticed something. Whenever I was up on stage (acting, playing music) or working on set, all of that baggage disappeared. I was let loose, unchained, unrestrained to be myself. After coming to this epiphany, that's when I chose to take on the name "Nanashi". It isn't about the name, it isn't about the face, it's about just being simply yourself.

"A rose by any other name would smell as sweet"
